Do cats deserve eco-friendly homes too? Herb'n Maid and SPACE Architecture & Design thinks so and are hosting an eco-challenge called Gimme Shelter to help city cats. To win contestants have to build an eco-friendly pet home.

The challenge: Local architects, architecture students and designers are asked to design a home for dogs or cats using sustainable materials and with sustainable practices. The conte

stants are required to use "65% used, salvaged or reclaimed materials and cannot spend more than $250".

Entries will be chosen, by vote, by the Gimme Shelter audience who will judge the contestants entries by certain criteria. The criteria include: use of sustainable materials, following contest guidelines, craftsmanship? and artistic design.

100% of the proceeds made from the Gimme Shelter event tickets will help Animal House, a private, non-profit shelter for cats, provide medical attention, love and a healthy, efficient and sustainable place for the cats to live while they wait for adoption. Ameren Missouri's Pure Power will offset 100% of the electricity used with renewable energy credits.

Location and date: The event will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011? at the ?SPACE Architecture + Design?, 4168 Manchester Ave., Saint Louis 63110. To find out more about the eco-challenge and the challengers visit Gimme Shelter.
