Punny Pawscars For Animal Actors

Over the years, several animal advocate organizations have used “The Pawscar” mantle to recognize canine thespians for their moving roles in film and TV. The American Humane Association gave it a go back in 2015 when they presented a long-overdue acting award to Lassie and a ‘lifetime achievement’ honor to the beloved capuchin monkey Crystal, whose lengthy resume included ’Night at the Museum,’ “The Hangover,” “American Pie,” and the “Dr. Doolittle” films.

Nat Geo WILD

This year, in tandem with the 90th Academy Award ceremony March 4, 2018, wildlife and history channel Nat Geo Wild will be hosting its own version of the Red Carpet pre-show.

Nat Geo WILD's “The Pawscars,” will of course be pun-heavy, featuring popular animal celebrities, such as Sloth Rogan, KangaRooney Mara, Meryl Sheep — and hosted by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel . . . erh, Kibble.

The human hosts Ross Matthews and Sarina Morales have taken on the task of critiquing the fashion choices of every animal that crawls, slithers or flies onto the iconic carpet.

In an animal-human reversal, the four-legged celebrities will be aptly given voice by voice-over actors, who will also conduct interviews and provide humorous banter as the award nominees.

Other Punny Guest Appearances

Keep a keen eye out for Bunnifer Lawrence, Cobra Winfrey, Jessica Chascrane, and Cat Damon (whose ongoing feud with host Jimmy Kibble is rumored to extend into one of their infamous “cat and dog” fisticuffs).

Showing that The Pawscars can also relate to topical humor, be ready for some “MeToo” references and some appropriate jabs at Harvy Weinstein.

Not Conflicting

While The Pawscars will debut the same night as the 90th Oscar Awards shows, it will air one hour earlier at March 4, 7:00 p.m. EST/4:00 p.m. PST on ABC. So check out the wild antics of the wildlife who will presenting and nominating. It’s guaranteed to be savagely punny.
