New York City Post-Apocalyptic & Human-less

What would the Big Apple be like without it’s 8.5 million homo-sapiens rubbing up against each other? HBO answers that question with it’s popular animated adult series titled ANIMALS. Now into its third season, this dystopian look at earth post-apocalypse follows the lives of downtrodden creatures seeking survival in the metropolis.

Created by Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano both of whom write, direct, and produce the entire series, Season 3 features the notable voices of Demi Moore, John Leguizamo, Marcia Clark, Moby, Edie Falco, Tatiana Maslany, Soledad O’Brien, Cheri Otero, Aisha Taylor, Jonny Knoxville and many, many more.

As the story goes . . .

Three years after the green bomb wiped out humans in New York, rats Phil and Mike roam the city following a wild, alcohol-ridden evening, searching for a missing car.

Encountering multiple species and terrors along the way, it also follows the life of Wallet, a diminutive, but fierce and heroic bird. At Pigeon Heights, he ascends to the right hand of the newly crowned Pigeon King Phil where they are tasked in protecting their flock after terrorists take over a bar mitzvah [yes, apparently Jewish traditions have been acquired by Earth’s surviving creatures.]

Mixed Reviews . . .

The first season received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. As of April 2016, it holds a 60% "Fresh" rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 15 reviews.

Vulture has called it "one of the funniest, most idiosyncratic shows on television," noting that the series "always fills a viewer with glee," while Decider described ANIMALS. as an "offbeat hidden gem" and "bitingly funny."
