A ginger cat injured in a car accident looks so grouchy staff at the RSPCA’s Putney Animal Hospital have dubbed him 'Grumpy Cat 2.0' in homage to grimacing internet meme cat Tardar Sauce.

'Grumpy Cat 2.0' Showered With Loving Care At RSPCA Clinic, Says It Was Awful

"Saul was brought in by one of our animal collection officers after a gentleman found him wandering along the High Street in Peckham in the rain," according to Caroline Allen, RSPCA London's veterinary director. "We believe he was involved in a road traffic accident as we found he had injured his jaw, teeth and one eye – all leading to his rather unique look," she added. "He's had to have his jaw wired so it's no surprise he's a little grumpy!"

And boy does he look it - so much so, in fact, that hospital staff have nicknamed him "Grumpy Cat 2.0" as an homage to the internet's grouchiest cat, Tardar Sauce. Unlike the original Grumpy Cat, however, Saul is expected to recover from his injuries and eventually lose his withering countenance... not a bad thing, unless you're out for internet fame and fortune.

At press time, Saul is “enjoying” the constant care provided by staff at the RSPCA's Putney Animal Hospital. “Despite his constant scowl, Saul's actually really sweet and friendly,” states director Allen. That's really quite the wonder considering the trauma he's endured both as a result of his accident and during the course of his treatment.

One mystery remains: Saul wasn't microchipped and since nobody's come in to claim him, hospital staff are under the assumption he's been living rough on London's mean streets. That may all be behind him now, though. “He’s recovering really well from his injuries and we hope he will soon be ready to move to our cattery at Southall to find a new home,” explains Allen. Oh, and just in case you're not into grouchy cats (perish the thought!), Allen wants to assure potential adopters that “Our cats aren't all as grumpy as Saul.”
