A frightened and presumably forgotten cat was caught on video clinging to the roof of a van speeding along the interstate near Omaha, Nebraska.

Forgotten Cat Surfs Van Roof On Nebraska Highway

A “Cat on a Hot Van Roof” filmed car-surfing on I-480 hopefully came to a better end than poor Aunt Edna's dog from National Lampoon's Vacation. Kudos to the Rankin family, who captured video of the windblown feline while alerting the van's driver to their upper level passenger.

"My daughter says, 'There's a cat on that van,' and I was like, 'Oh no, that's a raccoon,'" related Ronda Rankin to a reporter from KETV-Omaha. "When my husband pulls up closer, I'm like, 'Oh my God, no, that's a cat.'" After some frantic waving by Rankin and a chorus of horn honking by her husband, the van's driver realized something was seriously amiss and slowed down prior to pulling over.

The Rankins continued on their way, later posting video of the perturbed puss-on-roof to their Facebook. The Nebraska Humane Society then got involved, stating they're attempting to track down the van's owners to ascertain the cat's fate. "I mean how that cat held on at high speeds like that is amazing," commented NHS spokesman Mark Langan. "And I want to know what happened to the cat, people in Omaha want to know what happened to the cat, let's find out what happened to this poor cat."

The cat in question has long hair and is gray & white, while the van was described by the Rankins as being a burgundy Plymouth Grand Voyager, driven by a Caucasian middle-aged couple. Anyone with any information on the incident, which occurred on Interstate 480 in Omaha around 8:30 p.m. last Friday, May 18th, is asked to contact the Nebraska Humane Society. (via KETV and CTV)
