Moomins are fun little fictional creatures that somewhat resemble a cuddly hippopotamus. They were created by Tove Jansson, an author in Finland. Since the first book was published in 1945 the creatures have become popular around the world. Now you (or your child) can own your own Moomin Plush Toy.
I discovered Moomins in the public library as a child and have loved them since. While they aren't yet a huge thing in the U.S., but the Japanese even crazier about them than the Finns are. They even have a Moomin Cafe in Japan.
To learn more about the Moomin adventures in Moominvalley you can check out one of the books. The first one that I read was Finn Family Moomintroll and it remains my favorite of the collection.Especially when they find a magicians hat that they decide to use as a wastebasket and it transforms everything they put into it. Perhaps the coolest thing is eggshells that turn into little clouds that they can float around on.
