If catnip leaves your cat cold, Smack Silverine – a finely-ground powder made from the Silver Vine plant – can bring out their inner kitten.
Catnip may be famed for stimulating cats here in the western world but in Asia, it takes a back seat to Silver Vine (Actinidia polygama) or as it's known in Japan, “matatabi”. A Japanese company called “Smack” has begun marketing powdered matatabi under the brand name “Silverine”, and it's easily available online at Amazon.com.
“Smack Silvervine is Japan's best-selling cat's treat,” according to the product page copy by seller Zendo Japan. It comes in four varieties: plain (black box), with added calcium (blue box), with added Taurine (red box), and with added dietary fiber (green box) for cat owners who would like to supplement their cat's diet with matatabi.
Each box of Silverine contains five individual packets of powder weighing 0.5 grams per packet. It's recommended that no more than half a packet be used to boost your cat's appetite, reduce their stress levels, and/or to enhance play time. The basic (black box) Smack Silverine costs $6.91 at Amazon.com and shipping is free. Thanks to Lady Bee for the tip!
