Back Behind The Wheel, The Barkley’s Are On The Road Again

America’s furry four-legged family, the Barkleys are back in a series of new Subaru TV ads called "Dog Tested ... The Barkleys.” Their acting cred is substantial.They’ve starred in Subaru commercials since 2009 and most recently are promoting Subaru’s introduction of the 2019 Ascent. As the largest Subaru SUV to date, this new vehicle is designed appropriately for families like the Barkleys, complete with flexible seating up to 8 passengers.

Bigger & Better

Launching these funny new commercials on the Screen Actors Guild Awards show recently, Randy Hughes, executive creative director at the Carmichael Lynch ad agency noted, “this year, the creative team had additional inspiration in the new three-row Ascent, the biggest vehicle Subaru has ever made, and we looked for ideas that would let us give the world an early peek at this new vehicle.”

“That led to the car wash and dropping the puppy off for the first day of school,” added Hughes.

In the first ad below, the car-wash crew steals the show with a lot of splish-splashing and sudsing in and out of the commercial drive-through.

 

Love of Pets

Identifying with the growing population of pet owners nationwide, Suburu is one of the few car manufacturers to realize the value in targeting this demographic.

“With more than half of Subaru drivers having pets, we believe it is important to celebrate the love of pets shared by our owners,” said Alan Bethke, senior vice president, marketing at Subaru of America. “Pets are considered members of our Subaru family and utilizing the Barkleys in our campaigns allows us to connect with our customers in an authentic, fun, and entertaining way.”

Puppy Bowl XIV

In some very deft advertising placement, Subaru will be sponsoring this year’s Puppy Bowl XIV airing February 4th on Animal Planet. In addition to supporting the nation’s favorite prelude to the annual Super Bowl, the automaker will also join forces with Buzzfeed and Funny or Die to help produce and promote custom content for the #MakeADogsDay campaign.

Dropping the pup off

What family can’t relate to the heartfelt emotions of dropping your son or daughter off at school for the very first time. Here, the Barkleys have aptly chosen 'Obedience School' for their youngest student pup.

After the tears, it almost makes you want to go out and buy your very won Suburu, don’t you think?
