Nothing surprises me about parrots.  They are the most uncanny,
confounded creatures that ever brought endless joy, humor, and
destruction to a home.  Very smart, very demanding, and very active, you
need to keep them very busy, or they find a way to keep themselves
busy... You want to avoid the latter.

Certain pets take so much of our time and energy that when a friend has a
pet, one of the gift giving considerations is his or her preoccupation
(some call it love) with that pet.  Then there are those whose greater
interest is with wildlife and the animals only found in the wild, with
the exceptions residing in zoos. Here are some new ideas for holiday
gifts for the pet and animal loving human adults and kids in your life.

Pet calendars have become so clever and creative that this year I've
decided to separate the cat calendars from the dog ones. No one seems to
be very creative with the remaining species
of pets, but that's my complaint every year.  So, off we go into kitty
land and the artists that express them so well in the 2011 Cat Wall
Calendars.

Here's one difference between dog and cat lovers.  Cat lovers love cats;
dog lovers love specific breeds of dogs.  Generalization?  Well, that's
what calendar publishers are telling us, because they print far more
breed specific calendars about dogs than cats.  I sent my dog Coca out
digging for the doggone delightful ones and he came back with some -
very proud of himself.

A physics grad student at Georgia Tech, Andrew Dickerson, conducted an
interesting animal experiment in the hopes of it leading to a new design
for a washing machine or something, perhaps, that had not been invented
yet.  He studied the number of shakes it takes for various animals to
dry off.

If you are sick of your kids, spouse or roommate leaving the fridge door
open then you should take a look at the Fridgeezoo creations out of
Japan.  These cute animal friends come in a milk carton shaped form and
are meant to be placed inside your refrigerator.  They start out
friendly enough, greeting you when you open the fridge, but quickly turn
on you if you keep the door open for too long.

Buy your cat any toy you want; in a few days he won't want anything to
do with it.  But cats never seem to tire of playing with paper bags and
cardboard boxes.  So, a cat litter box made of cardboard seems an
obvious solution for two purposes. Of course the Katpak, with
some eco-friendly kitty litter, is a clean ecological potty for home and
for travel.  But the other purpose, as you'll see in the video...

Instead of trying to identifying the culprits of that poop on the grass,
dog poop is actually a welcome sight to the residents of Cambridge,
Massachusetts, who are happily participating in the Park Spark Project.
The objective of the project is to turn dog poop into methane gas and
use it for energy.  A relatively small amount of dog poop is already
lighting one of the city's lamps - an eternal light from the power of
dog poop.
