Italian geneticists have traced the
mitrochondrial DNA of 83 horses from around the globe and have
determined that these horses shared a common ancestor.  She is approximately 140,000 years old, and the researchers have named her 'Equine Eve.'

Oh, I'm not accusing Newt Gingrich of being abusive to animals. Heavens
no!  What's abusive, not to mention totally ridiculous, is that his
campaign has put up a website for Newt supporters to post their pet
pictures and have campaign slogans coming out of their pets' mouths!  It's worse than using babies to further one's campaign!

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued new warnings on February 3,
2012 that underlined the danger of keeping small turtles, frogs, and
reptiles as pets.  They carry salmonella.

Researchers from the University of Arizona have discovered a 33,000 year
old dog skull in the Altai Mountains of Siberia... and it is well
preserved... enough to allow the team to determine it was domesticated.

A team of scientists, exploring the jungles of Indonesia's Borneo
Island, set up camera 'traps,' hoping to get photos of clouded leopards,
orangutans, and other wildlife known to be drawn to mineral salt licks,
such as are found on Borneo.  Instead, their cameras returned images of
the enchanting Miller's Grizzled Langurs, thought to have been extinct
since wild fires destroyed their natural habitats on the northeastern
part of the island.

Have you ever heard the phrase: "If honey bees
become extinct, human society will follow in four years"? Now I don't
know exactly where this came from or how the person who said it arrived
at that conclusion, but my best bet is that he was pointing out the
symbiotic relationship that exists on all the organisms on the planet.
Apparently, humans and bees are more connected that we think.
