Animals personified have taken over the game of Monopoly. Seems the thimble, the boot and the wheelbarrow have seen their better days, now that an extinct dinosaur, an aquatic flightless bird and a toddler’s bathtub toy have moved onto the board.
The goal is 12,500 species. The ’Photo Ark’ navigator and animal photographer is Joel Sartore. The mission is to document every captive animal species in the world using studio lighting and black-and-white backgrounds. So far, he’s traveled to 40 countries and has accomplished more than half of his target.
Giving human characteristics to animals is a perception referred to as “anthropomorphism.” This is the process of giving attribution of human traits, emotions, and intentions to non-human entities and is considered to be an innate tendency of man’s human psychology.
