Some of the smallest frogs known to man were recently discovered following a five-year survey in India. Scientists discovered the new species after exploring some of the more biodiverse forests and mountains of the country. The seven new species are part of the “night frogs" family, biologically referred to as the Nyctibatrachus genus. Four of the seven — which are among the tiniest frogs ever found — are capable of comfortably crouching on a Indian rupee of or a thumb nail, with room to spare.

Over the years, I’ve blogged a lot about the animal abuses and outright cruelty incurred by sea animals at SeaWorld. Most recently, I penned a testimonial piece in memoriam for the passing of the killer whale, Tilikum. This case caused global protests by animal activists worldwide when it became a center piece for CNN’s award-winning documentary, Blackfish, that shined a glaring light on the maltreatment of Orca whales in captivity.

At this dark time of year people don't usually think of braving the cold to go to the zoo -- especially at night. During the month of December zoos all over North America change this up by creating month-long events called Zoo Lights or Wild Lights. They decorate their grounds with millions of twinkle lights and displays of animals made of lights right alongside the live animals that live there.
