Meet grimpoteuthis discoveryi, or one of a genus of octopuses known as Dumbo octopuses known for their ear-like fins. The name is derived from the Walt Disney character by the same name since the fins seem to resemble Dumbo's ears.
They live at the deepest level the ocean, deeper than that of any other known octopus, and hover over the sea floor looking for any tasty tidbits crawling by. Unlike other octopuses, Dumbo here swallows its prey whole. The largest ever recorded was about six-feet in length, but the average is considerably smaller.
