This weekend PetSmart is holding an adoption event to match dogs and cats with their perfect "forever" home. Unlike other pet retailers, PetSmart does not sell pets (other than fish and birds). They work with PetSmart Charities to arrange to have adoptable animals on site. PetSmart Charities, in turn, contracts with rescue organizations to help the animals find their way home.
While some cats are available for adoption every day and dogs on weekends at PetSmart, larger community event like this increase the likelihood that you will find just the right new family member for you. Funds charged for the adoption is determined by the agency the animal is being adopted through. PetSmart does not receive these funds. PetSmart Charities also donates to these agencies to help them keep operating in your area.
What shots and other veterinary care are covered in the adoption fee is determined by the agency providing the animal for adoption. Call your local PetSmart to find out what agencies are participating in your area and to find out other information regarding adoption.
PetSmart Charities partners with 2,000 animal rescue agencies across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Since the program began in 1994 they have helped save the lives of more than 5 million cats and dogs. This service finds homes for 7,000 pets a week.
When you adopt through PetSmart you receive an adoption kit that includes savings offers on pet products to help get you started.
This weekend's event covers all PetSmart stores in the U.S. and Canada. The next nationwide event is currently scheduled for May 3-5, 2013.
