It is like something out of a really lame knock off of Alfred
Hitchcock's movie "The Birds." The residents of the small town of
Noordeinde in the Netherlands are being visited by an overly friendly
owl. The bird has a strange penchant for landing on people's heads.
Fortunately it does not use its talons to grab hold so no one has been
physically hurt. The surprise, however, has probably caused some serious
rushes of adrenalin.
People in the Netherlands are calling this eagle owl the "cuddly" owl to discern it from another owl in another part of the country that was known as the "horror" owl for doing the same, but with talons blazing. Fortunately the horror owl was caught last month and the people in that area are breathing easier when venturing outside.
The cuddly owl appears to be tame and people have been flocking from all over the country to get to witness the activity of the bird. It isn't often that ordinary birdwatchers have the opportunity to interact personally with a raptor. It isn't often that one would want to.
A number of the locals believe that the bird is actually an escapee from an aviary in Oostenwalde. Wherever the owl came from he is now credited with "putting Noordeinde on the map" as news of it has spread world-wide.
