Most inventors have pets. I can be safe with that statement, because most people have pets, whether they're dogs or cats, rabbits, fish, birds, snakes, geckos, etc. PetSmart knows this and instead of turning to its usual providers of products for new ideas, it's turning to us: inventors who know how to create innovative solutions to improve life!
So, get to it and improve the life of pets! Any pets you would like, including dogs, cats, birds, fish or small animals like geckos, hamsters or ferrets.
PetSmart is particularly looking for products that speak to a pet's boredom. What do pets do when we're not home and they get antsy, restless, separation anxiety? PetSmart says that these feelings in our pets can lead to:
- Barking or other attention seeking behavior
- Chewing, digging or scratching
- Shorter life expectancy
- Inappropriate elimination
- Weight gain
- Aggression towards people or other animals
Not nice. So, PetSmart is seeking concepts for interactive pet toys that will keep pets from being destructive and feeling terribly lonely.
Go get your thinking caps on and make your submissions to Edison Nation, where you can read more specifics about the contest. You have until July 9, 2009. You can submit as many ideas as you want for $25 each. They must be protectable.
Oh, and if your concept gets selected, you win $2500 plus a percentage of sales for 20 years. Not too shabby.
