Yesterday morning members of the California Highway Patrol found
themselves on the police chase of a lifetime when it was reported that
there was a Chihuahua on the Bay Bridge heading from Oakland to San
Francisco. The bridge was closed for a short time while officers took up
the pursuit of the runaway Rover.

The tiny 10-pound dog led the highway patrol on a merry chase for quite a distance before being cornered. He was taken into custody without further incident. His humans are now being sought so that he may be returned home. Chances are he will spend some time under "house arrest" at that point.

In the meantime, he has been charming the socks off of the California Highway Patrol. Officers there have lovingly and jokingly nicknamed the precocious pooch "Ponch" after the beloved character on the television show CHiPs. No doubt if no owners are found a loving home is likely to be found among his new band of brothers (and sisters).
