As the song goes . . . isn't it ironic? 🎶
EnviroBuild, a company that makes sustainable building materials, paid for the rights to name a worm-like creature Dermophis donaldtrumpi. This amphibian was named such because of its attitude toward climate change.
The company also shared a photo-shopped image of the creature with Trump-like hair on its head.
EnviroBuild named a new Creature
EnviroBuild paid $25,000 to name the limbless species Dermophis donaldtrumpi, as part of a fundraiser for the Rainforest Trust, a nonprofit conservation organization.
Like Donald Trump, the president . . . this creature lives underground and has the habit of burying its head in the sand when it comes to the effects of climate change. During his first term as president, Trump has repeatedly dismissed the signs of climate change, contradicting the findings of his own staff and scientists world-round.
Burrowing comes naturally. . .
Aidan Bell, EnviroBuild's cofounder, reported in a statement in a December 2018 statement that "burrowing" his head underground helps him avoid "scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change," as well as appointing energy lobbyists to the Environmental Protection Agency, "where their job is to regulate the energy industry."
This creature living almost entirely underground is believed to have lost its limbs 60 million years ago, as an evolutionary adaptation to burrowing.
Extinction is in the cards?
Comparing it to the president," Bell said, "it is particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change and is therefore in danger of becoming extinct as a direct result of its namesake's climate policies." Could that prescient news also apply to the president? Well, an election is around the corner this November. Time will tell on that one.
"EnviroBuild is not an overtly political organization, but we do feel very strongly that everyone should do everything they can to leave the world in a better way than they found it," he added.
With Trump-like hair . . .
The tiny creature's name is still up for approval, contingent upon a peer review. "It is something that EnviroBuild biologists have spoken to — but, multiple species are named after Presidents, and this amphibian will soon join the vulnerable list," said Bell.
It is partially "blind" with rudimentary eyes, which can only detect light or dark. Capable of seeing the world only in black and white, Donald Trump has claimed that climate change is a hoax by the Chinese.
