JW Hol-ee Roller Treat Dispensing Dog Ball

Many treat balls are made for dogs who are strong 'chewers,' and they are great for letting your dog use his natural hunting skills, as well as giving him a good chew. But when you have an older dog or a gentle chewer, a Kong Classic will not interest him.

I found a perfect treat ball for my older dog whose teeth are worn down from all the chewing he did in his youth. The ball comes in several sizes to provide just enough challenge to any size dog, and each size from mini to jumbo has a thicker frame than the next smaller size. It's called the JW Hol-ee Roller Treat Dispensing Dog Ball.

The Hol-ee Roller is made of brightly colored stretchy rubber, so you can fit large treats inside. Actually, you should fill the ball with treats large enough not to slip through the holes or the treats will just fall out, not providing your dog with much of a challenge. Some dog owners even put hard bones in the Hol-lee Rollers, which gives your dog a greater grip on the bone, but may result in the destruction of a Hol-lee Roller.

The Hol-lee Roller toys are great for teething puppies.

But if destruction seems like a sure thing, there are tougher Hol-lee Rollers you can buy: mini (2.5") to jumbo (7.5") sizes provide progressively tougher rubber with each size. Recently, JW Pet even came out with a 5-inch Hol-lee Roller Extreme which will give the heavy duty chewers a run for their bones.

Oh, and there's the Hol-lee Football, a gentle spherical treat ball that comes in small, medium, and large and in red and yellow. This is scented with vanilla extract!

Now, you just have to find the right size treats for the Hol-lees. When I received mine, I immediately saw that my available treats were too small for the holes. Standard size dog cookies will work and, as you've seen above, bones can be squeezed inside, but I saw a super video, by meg9388 that suggests you can wrap the small treats up in fleece and then insert several treat filled fleece wraps into the Hol-lee Ball.

Here is the video... It's about 3 minutes, but you'll get the idea in a minute or so:

Great idea, huh? I've already tried this with my older dog and it works wonders. I love the fact that I can provide him with an activity that will challenge his mind and provide a great release of tension.

That's the buzz for today!
