Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals. Apparently this is so strong that, even centuries later, his statue draws animals to visit. This crow seems even more interested in him than the stone bird added to the statue.
One of the stories I have heard about the saint was that one day, while praying beside an open window, a bird flew in and built its nest in his arms. It is said that he remained in that position while the bird laid its eggs, the babies hatched, and the family finally flew off. An exercise in patience.
Happy St. Francis of Assisi Day!
