A new music video by Marshmello, an electronic music producer, and featuring Bastille, an alternative rock/pop band, needs to come with a warning to have a hankie at the ready because it is a real tear-jerker. It is especially touching for dog lovers. The music is the song "Happier" and features the tale of a young girl who receives a Golden Retriever puppy for her birthday and the years of loving partnership that follow.
The dog, curiously named Mello, is the girl's love and support to make her happier through those difficult teen years. The girl as a young woman is played by Miranda Cosgrove. By the time she is in her 20s Mello is old and getting sick and needing her as much as she ever needed him. Eventually Mello has reached the end and he has to be put to sleep. Enter the tears.
Suddenly it is a couple of decades later and the video returns to the birthday theme and the young woman is now a mother. Another young girl receives the gift of another Golden Retriever puppy. The circle is now complete and carries on.
The music is good and solid, but oh, those golden dogs! The video is something of a tribute to pets -- the gift that keeps on loving.
