Animals ending up on the field during a soccer match is not an unusual thing. However it is unusual for more than one kind of animal to show up on the field in a single game. Earlier this month in Mexico the teams from Pacheco and Jaguares were in the second half of a game when a dog pranced happily onto the field in Hidalgo Stadium. After his departure a cat later showed up to interrupt the game.

This particular game could have used some livening up anyway. Only one goal was scored during the game, and, according to a very reliable source (my dad) that makes for a very boring game. This is especially true when that one goal happens so early in the game.

So when this particular pup trotted out onto the field to see if he could lend a paw he was greeted with cheers and a standing ovation. The yellow Labrador Retriever was perky and friendly, and willing to say hi to everyone. He was reveling in the attention and waiting for someone to kick the ball his way. In the meantime he trotted over to the sideline to say hello to some staffers. That was where he made his mistake  They put a leash on him and forced him from the stadium before he had a chance to lay a paw on the ball.

The game continued and eventually, not to be outdone by a mere dog, a cat walked on to one corner of the field and sat down. Once the cat was noticed the game was halted once again. Whether the cat had just been seeking a better seat to cheer on her favorite team or to sit in judgement of silly humans is unknown. Once a referee approached the cat she took off for safer environs.

After these unprecedented incidents the game continued to its conclusion with no further goals being scored. At least there had been some unusual moments to entertain the fans somewhere in this game. As for you dogs and cats out there -- don't try this at home. The fans at the game you interrupt may not be so in need of a break in the action -- or lack thereof.
