We're having a wet winter this year in the U.S., even in Southern California, thank heavens! But are you protecting your dog as well as he needs? Did you know that exposure to cold rain or snow could lead to pneumonia if your dog is exposed to it longer than a few minutes?
Yes, your dog does need to wear a raincoat, and a snug, water-repellent one that covers his body is the best kind. That may mean near complete protective coverage with a waterproof material or it could mean a water repellent outer shell with a warm lining to keep your dog warm as well as dry. I would definitely go for a high-necked coat to keep as much of your dog's neck and head as dry as possible.
Hurtta has a great reputation among dog owners, especially when it comes to protective clothing for dogs. The Rain Blocker is no exception.
As you can see, the coat covers the entire back, neck, front legs and back end of your dog, leaving plenty of room for him to 'do his stuff' without soiling the coat. This particular Hurtta dog coat is not specifically designed for very cold weather, as it is not lined; however, this Rain Blocker coat is great for all seasons when it is not too cold, or when your dog has thick fur, like the dog in the above photo. It is also Hurtta's signature model for its winter coats.
The collars can be raised on these coats and there is an inner lining that ties so the collar stays closed. The front legs are snug to prevent water from splashing up on your dog's legs.
The Hurtta Rain Blocker Dog Raincoat comes in Raven, Stream, and Hedge; they are all waterproof fabric. A fourth color, Hedge Eco (below) is made from recycled plastic bottles! Trim is reflective 3M brand material and, in addition to providing safety in the dark or inclement weather, it makes a brilliant design on the coat.

The short video below demonstrates how to measure your dog for a Hurtta coat:
The Hurtta Rain Blocker coat comes in sizes 10 to 28 which are based on the length of your pup's back. If her back size comes up between sizes, buy the next size up.
Depending on your dog's outerwear needs, I'm sure Hurtta will meet them. You can find the Hurtta outerwear collection here.
That's the buzz for today!
