My cat received a Hexbug Robotic Mouse as a Christmas gift last year, and I was surprised that the company known for robotic toys for kids had branched off into pet toys. But really, it's a natural evolution.
This mouse, which may be delivered in grey or white, is a mover. It moves in erratic ways, though, which is great to keep your cat on the ball! And if your cat happens to tip the mouse over, the Hexbug resets itself, hopping right back on its feet.
As one customer said about the Hexbug Smart Mouse, "You buy one or two, but you need to get five!" These mice really attract a cat's interest; just get a bunch of batteries to keep them going because they burn out fast. (The Polaroid LR44 Batteries are definitely the best!)
Hexbug also makes a Remote Control Mouse Cat Toy if you want something more interactive. Both versions only work on flat, non-carpeted, surfaces.
A really cool Hexbug Nano Robotic Cat Toy has all the movements of the Hexbug Mouse, but may offer a bit more of a challenge as it has two different parts: the Hexbug Nano and the swishy tail.
This little guy scurries around sporadically, swishing its tail until it totally catches your cat's pounce. And after that, it will still wiggle around. Battery run, like the Hexbug Mouse, the Nano has an on/off switch at the bottom. Each part is about 1.5 inches long and, like the Hexbug Mouse, above, may have the habit of gravitating towards fixtures and furniture, so you may want to cover up the bottoms of those areas before play time so the toys don't get lost.
The Hexbug Nano Robotic Cat Toy comes in different colors, however, you can't choose them ahead of time, so you and your cat will both be surprised!
You can purchase all the above toys as a set - the Hexbug Deluxe Nano Cat Toy Pack Plus Remote Control!
The whole set includes all that you see above: 2 Hexbug Nano Robotic Cat Toys, 1 Hexbug Mouse Robotic Cat Toy, 1 Hexbug Remote Control Mouse Cat Toy, and 1 Hexbug 12-pack of batteries. This package gets very high marks from kitty parents.
A more recent entree to the cat toy scene, the HEXBUG Cat Toy Beacon Pester The Pigeon doesn't roam around, but it has a rotating head that shines a laser beam as the head swivels randomly to surprise your kitties! This is a Class 1 laser, so it is safe for your pet's eyes!
The toy has three speeds and when the head is spinning on medium or fast, cats get totally confused. (See customer video.) One drawback mentioned by customers is that the toy stops automatically after five minutes (battery saver?), just when their cats are getting interested in it.
This Hexbug runs on 3 AAA batteries that are included with the toy.
Hexbug is a leader in making smart toys for kids. It looks like it has a lot to contribute to the pet market too!
That's the buzz for today!
