Icebergs that look like our fave pets and animals? It's more likely than you think thanks to the uniquely human tendency known as pareidolia.
1) Bipolar Bear
They say that camouflage is a bare necessity for predators and/or prey but in this case, we'll call it the “bear” minimum. You can judge who wears white better: the berg or the bear. (image above and at top via Karola)
2) Icebird
Just beak cause it's cold outside doesn't mean our feathered friends have to fly the coop – and just because they can, doesn't mean they should. In the case of the above avian ice floe, flying south for the winter would have some very unfortunate consequences. (image via VillageHero)
3) Cool for Cats
Once you see it, you can't unsee it: the majestic ice mountain above totally looks like a sleeping cat! Well, maybe only half asleep... one eye's open and other's closed. Note also the black & white cow-cat in the background. (image via Olivier DAVID)
4) Hoggin' the Shore
30 to 50 feral ice hogs have hit the beach and here's one of 'em! This somewhat porcine berg hails from Alaska and apparently was on its way to pitch yet another Alaska-centric reality show to the Discovery Channel. (image via mark byzewski)
5) Froghorn
Don't try to play leap-frog with this icy amphibian – you could wind up much worse than a case of warts. Where did this toad-like iceberg come from, you may ask? It grew from a North Tadpole, most likely. (image via Marta Brambilla)
6) Penguin Win
And the penguins bowed and prayed, to the frozen god they made... apologies to Simon and Garfunkel. That said, the striking iceberg above really does look like a really big, really blue, really cold penguin. Somebody alert Batman before it's too late! (image via denisbin)
7) Snow Crab
Hold the melted butter, this is one crustacean even the guys from Deadliest Catch would throw back. At least they would if it wasn't for a certain “claws” in their contract. (image via Dave Lonsdale)
8) Seahorse
Old and busted: Leading a horse to water and not being able to make him drink. New hotness: Leading THIS horse to water and turning him INTO a drink. Thanks to global warming, this new hotness will someday be the norm. (image via Blake Handley)
9) Backstroke Bird
Accused of taking things lying down? Content to just float through life while the world passes you by? Well then, you just might be the startlingly birdlike iceberg above. Don't pity this poor pareidoliac beast, however. You can't say he doesn't look up to, well, pretty much everything. (image via Chris)
10) See Lion
Either this bluish berg resembles a skeletal frozen lion or Stripe from the Gremlins movie is about to get his revenge. You do recall what they said about keeping mogwais away from water, right? Definitely one case where a frowning lion melting out of an ancient iceberg is the lesser of the two evils. (image via Jim Dickson)
