The success of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards has spun out an opportunity for pet photographers that include the many of us who don''t get out to the jungles of Africa every day to take photos. This photography competition is the Comedy Pet Photography Awards, and 2017 is its first year. Get your cameras out, your pets ready, and start clicking!
Whether you're 7 or 77, pro or amateur, live in the U.S. or the Ukraine... if you have a camera, a pet (or can borrow someone else's), and a lucky clean shot of the pet being funny, you can enter this competition. You have to share the photo with a lot of fans if you win, but hey, it's worth it.
First prize in the Comedy Pet Photography Awards is £2000 (about $2,500 US), a unique trophy handmade by Tanzanian workers, and a Think Tank Urban Approach 5 camera bag for your gear! Winners in each category (Ancients, Juniors, Pets That Look Like Their Owners, Gone To The Dogs, and Open) will receive the Think Tank camera bag and a pretty certificate to hang on your walls.
The Comedy Pet Photography Awards coupled with the Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF) and other organizations and companies to co-sponsor the Awards. The AWF is a charity advised by veterinarians and vet nurses to educate the public and protect all kinds of animals - wild, farm animals, and pets. In its advisory role, the AWF is limiting awards to pet subjects that are being funny and excluding those animals who have physical defects or characteristics that may make them seem funny to humans. Some of those pets, referred to as KC3 pets, are excluded from entry. (See Terms and Conditions for pets whose photos will be excluded.)
The competition also states in the Terms and Conditions that it is not interested in pets in costumes or those that may be emotionally debased or physically harmed in the process of taking the photographs. Terms and Conditions is a really important page to read, so do so before thinking of what images you want to collect. You can enter a total of 4 photographs in the Comedy Pet Photography Awards; they don't have to be in the same category. The photos can be up to 50 years old, believe it or not!
