There once was a young man from Shanxi, whose near-breakup left his girl feeling hangry. But when his dumpling source delivered dinner by horse, the lady no longer was cranky.
OK, so limericks may be Irish but relationship strains know no national or cultural boundaries. Case in point: an arguing couple from Jincheng in north-central China's Shanxi province appeared destined for a messy breakup. Drastic measures were called for. One can imagine the gentleman (who it seems was at fault) desperately thinking to himself, “Dude, you're about to be dumped like a leftover dumpling... saaay, that gives me an idea!”
Kudos to the male partner for observing that his distaff other-half wasn't just angry, she was HANGRY. Thus, his romance-repair solution required a tasteful and tasty peace offering enhanced via a venue not available (to our knowledge) in Dublin, Djibouti or Des Moines... on horseback!
So it was that an unnamed dumpling restaurant whipped up a basket of the lady's favorite hot dumplings and – for dramatic effect – sent them out via China's version of the Pony Express, all decked out in traditional garb.
By all reports, the novel dinner delivery was a roaring, er, neighing success! We would hope the clever gent left a generous tip to the delivery boy... and a sugar cube or two to his faithful one-horsepower delivery “vehicle”. (via China Plus America)
