Who needs the eye of the tiger when you can wear a custom-made wool felt cat head mask whose eyes move like a haunted painting?
These oversized, custom-made, wool felt cat head masks from Japan are the answer to a question nobody asked... at least, we HOPE so. In any case, Japanese wool artist Housetsu Sato is cranking out these masks as fast as he can – which isn't all that fast since even a short-haired cat mask can take up to a month to complete.
Sato has been perfecting the design of the slightly disturbing masks since April of 2015, when he created a 6ft tall Maneki Neko (beckoning cat) figurine for a school festival. When the students began to clown around by wearing the figurine's head over their own, a light went on in Sato's head.
The hand-made finished product is now comfortable to wear, balanced for safety, and features eyes that move in sync with the motions of the wearer. The masks are startlingly realistic and can be made even more so, as Sato will work from photos of of cats sent in by their owners. Yeah, those kitties had better be prepared for a BIG surprise when the mask arrives! (via Rocketnews24 and PR Times)
