These awesome animal hospital signs raise the bark when it comes to advertising emergency medical care for our furry, feathery and fork-tongued friends.
1) Classy Lassie
This long-gone neon sign from DeKalb, IL hearkens back to the golden age of film star dogs: Lassie and Rin Tin Tin to name a couple. There weren't many (or any?) film star cats because directing cats is about as easy as herding cats. (animal hospital sign images at top and above via Tadson Bussey)
2) Get to the Point
Californians are “special” and so are their pets! This animal hospital in Sausalito (just north of San Francisco) appears to take pride in sticking it to their clients – both during and after each treatment. (animal hospital sign image above via Guillaume Paumier)
3) Go Big or Go Home
OK, we're confused... is this a large animal hospital, a hospital for large animals, or a clinic run by Dr Big McLargehuge? Judging by the sign alone, it's a small hospital with delusions of grandeur. (animal hospital sign image above via horsemeatpie)
4) Reptile Dysfunction
Doesn't matter if you're a turtle, a tortoise or a Senate Majority Leader, everyone needs to see a doctor sooner or later. That said, which of those three has to shell out the most for their course of treatment? (animal hospital sign image above via Florida Fish and Wildlife)
5) Seal the Deal
Seals living along the UK's eastern coast must have it pretty rough if they've got their own hospital. No word on whether this place has a gift shop but we're pretty sure there's not an after-hours “club” in sight. (animal hospital sign image above via Angie & Chris Pye)
6) Fear-al Cats
C'mon guys, it's hard enough to get our pets to the vet without signs like this compounding the matter and... well, OK, pets can't read (as far as we know) but still. We bet at least one little kid's been traumatized by this Scottsdale animal hospital's slightly-too-cute sign. (animal hospital sign image above via Classic Film)
7) Bush League
The age-old rivalry between plants and animals goes on, as illustrated by this sign for the Diamond Hill Animal Hospital. The encroaching vegetation may be slow but it will never, ever “paws” in its quest for total animal hospital sign domination. (animal hospital sign image above via Kipp Teague)
8) Sign of the Apocalypse
“Mass hysteria, cats and dogs living together”... and loving together, if the above sign is to be believed. Likely the only ones pleased by this sign are fans of the old “CatDog” cartoon. At least CatDog was conjoined by birth and not by choice. (animal hospital sign image above via pink hats, red shoes)
9) Vet Wilder
Welcome to the “All Wild Things” animal hospital, where the patients aren't the only exotic things: dig that psychedelic paint job! Now you know where to take your tiger when he's got a toothache or your hyena when she gets a hernia. (animal hospital sign image above via Jim Wallace)
10) Wash Hands Please
Though we can't vouch for the quality of treatment provided at this presumed Prescott, AZ (where there really is a Thumb Butte) animal hospital, we'll bet NONE of the patients have any advanced prostate issues. As for pet-owners, we advise you to take a seat in the waiting room and remain glued to it until wide-eyed Fido or Fifi is ready to go home. (animal hospital sign image above via Stephen Watson)
