"If it fits, I sits," got taken just a few miles too far for one cat in Nova Scotia, Canada. About 700 miles too far. Just like any other cat one-year-old Baloo is fascinated by boxes. A couple of weeks ago he squirmed his way into a box of tire rims that were being sent to Alberta. No one noticed a few extra furry pounds in the box when they sealed it up and sent it.

After about 17 hours one of the employees for the shipping company noticed something wrong with one of the packages. it was leaking urine. Moments later Baloo was discovered. He was in Montreal at this point. Purolator, the shipping company, dropped him off at the Montreal SPCA to have him checked out and make sure that he was okay after this unplanned cross-country trip.

The company gave the SPCA all of the shipping information so that the SPCA could track down his owner. Using the packages tracking code they were able to get in touch with Jennifer Lake who had not noticed Baloo was missing until after the package had been sent. Her family's houe-to-house search had turned up nothing so that was one amazing phone call.

Freedom Drivers, a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that transports shelter pets, agreed to take Baloo on the long 17-hour drive home. At least this time he was headed in the right direction. Lake commented that it didn't take long for Baloo be back to his old self again.

Lake is now giving packages and animals a wide berth so that there is no repeat of the adventure of the year. Baloo, for his part, has forgiven everyone involved. He now meows with a French accent (JK!).
