Matsumoto doesn't cut any corners when crafting his fantastically detailed creations – not something you'd want to do when making balloon art anyway. Everything you see is made from inflated balloons, down to the eyes, legs and antennae on his balloon insects. No markers, stickers, tape or glue are required.

As creating these wonderful balloon animals is strictly a hobby, most of Matsumoto's works are unique and aren't for sale. Fans of his work can get their fix by browsing the images of his balloon animals posted online at his Facebook and Twitter pages.

Most of us can whip up a passable balloon poodle if challenged to do so but Matsumoto takes the craft to a much higher level. “It is very difficult,” explains Matsumoto. “I create the shape by a process of trial and error.”

What's next for Matsumoto? “I intend to continue making balloon artwork,” states the artist. “I want to pursue new possibilities of balloon art.” Just where these possibilities might lead the artist is unknown, though his obvious level of talent leads to some very exciting possibilities.
