If you're getting your garden set up for your backyard birds, don't forget about water. Birds get thirsty and hot and they really enjoy their baths, especially when they don't know you are watching them.

Here are three bird bath gadgets that will attract birds and make their baths much more fun!

1. API Water Wiggler, Agitator for Bird Baths

If you already have a bird bath, Allied Precision Industries has created a gadget to attract your birds to it. It's a Water Wiggler, a water agitator for bird baths that makes the lovely ripples like you get when you throw a stone into a river. But no stone is needed - just two D batteries in the API Water Wiggler, Agitator for Bird Baths.

The agitator in the water serves several purposes: one, of course is that moving water attracts birds to it, but the agitator is also oxygenating the water, making it cleaner and, therefore, safer for the birds to bathe in. It minimizes visitation by mosquitoes and other insects and keeps the bath water cleaner longer.

Though the API Water Wiggler operates on two D batteries for up to two months, you may want to choose API's Solar-Operated Water WigglerIf you do select the solar version, you'll have to keep your bird bath in the sun.

If you want a Water Wiggler that doesn't look too industrial, API has that too: the API Water Wiggler With Glazed Ceramic Pottery Cover that runs on D batteries.

2. Ankway Solar Bird Bath Fountain Pump

Wow! These hummingbirds are really having fun in the sun!  Yes, the Ankway Solar Bird Bath Fountain Pump needs to be placed in full sun in order to operate, so if you are not in full sun, this may not be the right gadget for your bird bath.

This fountain pump shoots water up to 18 inches high. It comes with three sprayers so you can determine how high you want the water. The larger your bird bath, the higher the water shoot you can use, but one thing you don't want to do is set the sprayer too high so you lose water from the fountain. Maintaining the water level is very important, so you will need to regularly check the fountain to make sure the level is above the level of the pump.

If you like this type of fountain accessory, you almost have to have your bird bath located in full sun because these accessories are mostly solar powered. Unfortunately, most of the electric fountain pumps are too tall to operate in a bird bath, but the API Water Wiggler, Agitator for Bird Baths (above) that operates on D batteries would be a better choice.

3. Songbird Essentials Bird Bath Raft

Birds need shallow water to take a bath, and barrels, planters, and ponds are not shallow enough for a bird bath. But, you can tansform them into a bird bath with the Songbird Essentials Bird Bath Raft. No power or batteries required!

Songbird Essentials came up with an ingenius, but simple, Bird Bath Raft - a 15 inch diameter floater with small holes that permit just enough water to come to its surface so that the little guys can cool off in their own 'tub.'

There's a one-inch wide ledge for perching, and it is only one-inch deep, so the Bird Bath Raft is perfect for bathing fun. Make sure the water is always clean!

At least one of the above three bird bath gadgets should be perfect for the needs of your outdoor birds and perfect for your landscape as well. You can even use them on a balcony.

That's the buzz for today!
