There's an exhibit at the PPOW in New York now through April 14, 2012 that I
would not miss were I nearby.  Even on the computer screen, George
Boorujy's paintings of animals in their current un-natural environments flood one
with awe for the master painter, affinity for the animals he portrays,
and sadness, even guilt, that Boorujy's subjects have not been left alone by nature or man.

With Americans now spending over $41 billion per year on their pets; 39%

euthanized immediately.

Who knows what Little Red Riding Hood would have said had she been
eyeball to eyeball with a giant squid instead of a fox. Staring into a
10-inch eyeball might have just caused her immediate demise.  But not so
an international group of biologists who stared into the laboratory's
giant squid eyes to find out just why the squid's eye was so darned big.

The same lab that invented InCaSe, the blood test to screen for cancer in dogs, has a new test to determine gastrointestinal cancer in cats.  Unlike InCaSe, VDI-TK
is not a screening test and it cannot detect all cancers; what it can
do is quickly differentiate between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and
intestinal lymphomas, both relatively common diseases in cats.
